MOT Bay The Perfect Home For Halifax "SQUIRRELS"

During the past two years we at Pellon Autocentre in Halifax UK, have been visited by Grey Squirrels. The Squirrels seam to be attracted by the insulation materials between the roof and the false ceiling .

Tell Tale signs in the MOT bay

The first sign of the animals were the small pieces of insulation material found on the floor by MOT tester Ryan Linton. Ryan is very keen on wild life and tends to notice these kind of things. We them began to see the animals jumping about during the day. The squirrels were getting very daring darting about inside the MOT bay and also from the MOT building to a near by tree. This pair were beginning to look for a nest and it was in my MOT bay. Squirrels have a bad reputation of damaging things such as wire and electric wires and cables so I became a little worried at the thought of my little furry friends eating my large investment in the MOT bay. We scratched our heads as to how we could get rid of the Squirrels in a friendly way, although these animals are classed as vermin we wanted to eradicate our friendly guests in a humane way. I then remembered that a friend of mine in North Yorkshire did indeed have a small mammal trap. Of I went to see my friend Peter who did indeed have a wire trap to catch small rodents, including Squirrels. I duly borrowed the trap and returned back to Halifax to set the trap with peanuts,(or Ryan did). It was only a short time before the animals were caught and released in woods about 5 mile away.

Not so smart Squirrel loved our peanuts

Squirrels sure like our MOT bay

Well that was that except this year the exact same thing happened again in my MOT bay. We repeated our plan and once again both animals were caught and released about 5 mile away, this pair were not the same as last years because they were a different size, but Squirrels sure like our MOT bay.
